Robert A. Judge

a dedicated art professor and respected educator, passed away peacefully at his home on April 28, 2026, one day shy of his 88th birthday. Born on April 29, 1938, Robert’s life was marked by a profound commitment to the arts, education, and a lifelong pursuit of creativity.

Robert was a proud graduate of Cranston East High School, where his passion for creativity and learning first took root. He pursued higher education with remarkable dedication, earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Rhode Island School of Design, an institution renowned for cultivating artistic talent. Further enriching his academic journey, he earned a second master’s degree from Ohio University, also recognized for its strong programs in the arts. These achievements laid the foundation for a lifelong career in art education.

As an art professor at the Community College of Rhode Island, Robert inspired countless students with his expertise, enthusiasm, and genuine care for nurturing their creative spirits. His influence extended far beyond the classroom; he helped shape the artistic community in Rhode Island, fostering appreciation and innovation in the visual arts. A highly accomplished artist, his work is now held in private collections around the world, a lasting reflection of his vision and talent.

Beyond his professional life, Robert embraced his passions fully. A lifelong fitness enthusiast, he took pride in maintaining an active and disciplined lifestyle. He found his greatest sense of peace at the beach, where the rhythm of the ocean brought him calm and reflection. An avid reader, he had a deep appreciation for learning and quiet thought. He spent his winters in Key West, immersing himself in the beauty of the ocean and the vibrancy of its art scene. A devoted artist to the very end, he continued creating magnificent abstract paintings in the days leading up to his passing, a testament to his enduring passion and spirit.

Robert’s family was central to his life. He is survived by his beloved children: Tracey Duckworth (Greg Duckworth), Kristen Michalik (Chris Michalik), and Eric Judge, who carry forward his legacy with pride. He was cherished as a brother by Cynthia Flagg, and as a grandfather to Ryan, Alexis, Brianna, Dylan, CJ, Noah, Ava, Kiley, Anthony, and Zayne. His great-grandchildren—Amelia, Olivia, Mila, and Marcus—were a source of immense joy and happiness to him in his later years.

Robert’s parents, Anthony and Beaula (Diggle) Judge, preceded him in death, leaving a heritage that he honored through his life’s work and family devotion. He was also preceded in death by Janice Judge, with whom he shared over 60 years of his life.

He will be remembered not only for his accomplishments, but for the depth of his passion, his quiet strength, and the lasting impression he left on all who knew him.
