Rosalie A. (Soscia) Micallef, 103 of Cranston, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2025. Born in Cranston, she was the beloved daughter of the late Vincenzo and Teresa (Fusco) Soscia, she was predeceased by her husband of 70 years, Arthur C. Micallef.
Rosalie was the devoted mother of Arthur A. Micallef and his wife Beverly, Gregory E. Micallef, and Susan Micallef- Burke, and the proud matriarch of 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
The youngest of 9 children, “PeeWee” grew up in a home filled with love and commotion, a much simpler era, in the heart of then rural Knightsville, with deeply rooted traditions. One in particular, the Feast of the Madonna Della Civita, was always, and remains still, an integral part of our family heritage.
As an outstanding student at Cranston High School, she was nominated for two “superlatives”. Regulations allowed acceptance of only one, Rosalie chose “most athletic” over “most popular”.
During World War II, as part of “the greatest generation”, while her husband flew in combat missions over Europe, Rosalie worked at the Fields Point Shipyard in Providence, now the site of Johnson & Wales Culinary Campus.
As avid golfers, she and Arthur were founding members of the original Alpine Club, from its humble beginnings as a Social Club on Oaklawn Avenue in Cranston, now the location of the Immaculate Conception Church, to the elaborate Golf/ Country Club that it is today.
With Rosalie’s inherent homemaking skills, the Micallef household was home to endless festivities from traditional Christmas and Family Sunday dinners to boisterous New Year’s parties- favored by Rosie and Art’s closest friends for “best food/ most fun”.
In her late fifties, Rosalie decided to go to college and graduated from URI in 1981 with a degree in Communications. She utilized her education to advocate for everyday citizens while with the RI Attorney General’s Consumer Unit Division.
Also, over many years, she and her husband traveled extensively throughout Europe and Asia. They enabled their entire family to enjoy “Italy with Gerard”, and over 30 summers of fun at Bonnett Shores Beach Club. Truly special were year-round getaways to their White Mountains New Hampshire home, which they generously opened up to family, friends, and neighbors.
Lastly, and befittingly, Rosalie achieved her final goal: to pass peacefully in her home of over 80 years. So, here’s to “a life well lived”! We raise a glass to Rosie – a very dry martini. Salute!
The Micallef family wishes to acknowledge, with great appreciation, the exceptional personal care Rosalie received especially from Victoria, her truly dearest friend and primary care giver for over 11 years, and also the more recent assistance from “angels” Carrie, Verna, Quella, and Amanda.
