Rose (Regine) Centofanti, 91, died peacefully on Monday October 23, 2023, at Evergreen Nursing Home in East Providence, RI, surrounded by her family.
Rose leaves behind her only child, Daniel Centofanti of Barrington, RI, and her grandson, Nicholas Centofanti of Brooklyn, NY. She is predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Silvio Centofanti, with whom she resided much of their lives and raising their son in Johnston, RI. While living there, Rose, spent many hours gardening and loved the Summer when all the flowers were in bloom.
Born the youngest of six children to Michael and Anna (DeMaio) Regine, Rose is predeceased by five older brothers, Nicholas Regine, Francis Regine, Ralph Regine, Edward Regine and Raymond Regine, she often joked that it was like growing up with six fathers keeping an eye on her every move. Despite her kind demeanor and slight five-foot frame, Rose held her own against her older brothers and didn’t miss a trick in the book. In keeping with tradition, Sundays were spent with family where she honed her skills as an excellent cook and countless hours were spent around the dinner table.
Much of her professional career was spent at Bulova Watch Company and Cranston Print Works. Rose and Silvio dedicated many hours to the Smithfield Elks Club, where they made countless lifelong friends. There wasn’t a dog or cat Rose didn’t like and she was frequently visited, even in the nursing home, by her “granddog” and spent Sunday mornings on Zoom calls with her grandson, Nick, and his two cats.
Rose will be missed sorely by everyone who knew her, as she was a friendly, gracious, and compassionate friend, aunt, sister, mother, and grandmother. One of Rose and Silvio’s proudest moments was to watch their son flourish in his radio broadcasting career under the name of “Giovanni” on PRO-FM and would, on occasion, be called from the show for her advice as “Momma Giovanni.”
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday October 30, 2023, at 11:00 am in Our Lady of Grace Church, 15 George Waterman Rd., Johnston, RI. Burial will be immediately following in Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. VISITING HOURS will be held from 8:00 – 10:00 am at the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory can be made to RISPCA, 155 Plan Way, Warwick, RI 02886.
