79, of Cranston, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at Riverview Nursing Home in Coventry. He was the beloved husband of the late Teresa (Ricci) Capirchio.
Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Luigi and Kathrine (Zabatta) Capirchio. Sal proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He later served as Assistant Recreation Director for the City of Cranston, including supervising the Cranston Veterans Memorial Ice Rink and Budlong Pool for many years before retiring.
Sal was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who cherished spending time with his grandchildren and supporting their interests. A dedicated coach for the Cranston and Johnston school departments in baseball, football, and wrestling, his commitment to student-athletes earned him induction into the Rhode Island High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
A lifelong member of the VFW Post 2396, American Legion Post 20, and Vietnam Veterans of America, all in Cranston, as well as Amvets Post 33 in Pawtucket, Sal remained deeply connected to the veteran community throughout his life.
He is survived by his loving children, Corey Capirchio and his wife Julie of Cranston, and Mandi Capirchio of Cranston. He was the beloved grandfather of Dante and Gia Capirchio. He is also survived by his brothers, Louis Capirchio and his wife Patricia of Florida, and Joseph Capirchio and his wife Lori of Cranston.
His funeral will be held on Thursday, June 25th, at 9:00 a.m. from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston, followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, Cranston. Burial with military honors will be held in St. Ann Cemtery, Cranston.
