SANDRINO "SANDY" CODA

Sandrino "Sandy" Coda, 89, of Virginia Beach, VA, and formerly of Providence, passed away Friday morning, April 10, 2009. Mr. Coda was born in Wilkinson, West Virginia, where his father worked as a contract coal miner and interpreter for other Italians from Chiavazza, Italy. He was the son of the late Settimio Z. and Gemma (Giordanetti) Coda who had relocated to Providence in 1926. Mr. Coda was married for thirty-two happy years to the late Dorothy Claire (Goff) Coda. He is survived by their loving children, Robert Settimio Coda of Chesapeake, VA, and Janice Coda Simone, of Virginia Beach, VA, grandchildren Ryan Coda Simone of Norfolk, VA, Lauren Dorothy Ann Simone, of Virginia Beach, and Blacksburg, VA, David Alexander Simone, of Virginia Beach, and Re'necia Sandrina Coda of Chesapeake, VA, and sisters Rose Melino and Norma Bert of Johnston. Mr. Coda was also the brother of the late Enfa Manetti, Elma Iannazzi, and Ines Catanzaro. Mr. Coda was a graduate of Central High School, Providence, class of 1938. He was a veteran and served honorably in the US Army Air Corps during WWII from 1941-1945. Before and after the war, Mr. Coda worked for Bulova Watch Company for ten years. He left to become the co-owner of RI Tile Company which was the family business started by his father, Settimio Z. Coda, and his uncle, Vittorio Binello. He was also a retired RI state employee. Sandy Coda was very proud of his northern Italian heritage, loved to garden, take care of his home, and tinker with his car. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a deep and caring love for his family. He lived a full and rich life but will be sadly missed by many. Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston on Thursday at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Ann's Church, 1493 Cranston Street, Cranston. Burial will be in St. Ann's Cemetery, Cranston with his late wife and parents. VISITING HOURS Wednesday 6 to 8 p.m. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association, NE Affiliate, 20 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701-4688.
