Shirley A. Schalhoub,  88, of Narragansett passed away peacefully on Wednesday November 1, 2023, at South County Hospital with her family by her side.  Born in Brooklyn, NY she was the daughter of the late Francis “Ed” and Agnes (O’Halloran) McDonagh. She was the beloved wife of the late John A. Schalhoub.

Shirley was a teacher for many years in Brooklyn; she then went on to become a librarian at Monsignor Matthew F. Clarke School. She was an avid reader, and loved teaching others to read which made this a perfect fit.  Her true love was her family; spending time with her children and grandchildren was one of life’s greatest joys. Shirley and her late husband John enjoyed traveling together, the Caribbean was a favorite destination or to Ireland to visit extended family.

She was the devoted mother of Laura M. Rush and her husband James of Narragansett, John  A. Schalhoub, Jr. and his wife Julia of Waterford, CT and the late Bernadette Brannick and her husband James of Elmira, NY; loving grandmother of Brendan Rush, Anna Schalhoub, Michael Brannick, Carolyn Rush-Rogers, Audrey Schalhoub, Anthony  Schalhoub, and Marissa Brannick. She was the cherished great grandmother of Rodrigo Rush, and Maeve Rogers. She was predeceased by her brother Edward McDonagh, and sister Margaret Sullivan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday November 9, 2023 at 12:00 pm at St. Mary, Star of the Sea Church, 864 Point Judith Rd., Narragansett.  Inurnment will be at a later date. VISITING HOURS will be held from 9:00-11:00am at the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory-SOUTH COUNTY CHAPEL, 1111 Boston Neck Rd. (Rt.1A) Narragansett. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
