70, of Providence, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on January 21, 2026, at Rhode Island Hospital.
Born on January 3, 1956, in Laos, Somphet lived a life grounded in family, hard work, and quiet strength. He was known for his kindness and generosity and touched the lives of many through his compassion and genuine care for others.
Somphet found great joy in helping those around him and being there for his family whenever he was needed. He proudly served his community by volunteering his time at Wat Lao Buddhovath in Smithfield, Rhode Island, where he was always willing to lend a hand and offer support without hesitation. A hardworking and dependable man, he dedicated many years as a machine operator at Nyman Manufacturing and Garelick Farms, earning the respect and admiration of all who worked alongside him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Khamfong Voravong, who shared his life and will forever cherish his memory; his daughter Viengsay Voravong and her husband, Felix Cordero, his daughter Vilay Contreras and her
husband, Harold Contreras; and his cherished grandchildren, Brayden Contreras, Nolan Contreras, and Domenec Cordero, who brought him great pride and happiness. He is also survived by his siblings, Somkeo Voravong, Chaykham Insyxiengmay, and Marisa Manithong Thipavong.
Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Nardolillo Funeral Home & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston, RI 02911.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, February 1, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. at Nardolillo Funeral Home & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston, RI 02911.
May Somphet’s soul find peace. May his good deeds guide him on his journey, and may he be reborn into happiness and light. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
