With grace and in peace, Stephen Conte passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Inpatient Center in Providence, he was 87. Mr. Conte loved and was loved by Norma (Martellini) Conte, his wife for 60 years, his daughter Deborah Montaquila and son-in-law Joseph of East Greenwich, his late son Steven Conte, his siblings, Vincenza Capalbo of Providence, Jackie Pironti of Warwick, and the late Christina Cannalongo, Antoinette Podell, Michael and Joseph Conte. Mr. Conte also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
Born in Providence, he lived in Cranston for the last 55 years and was the son of the late Vincent and Cicilia (Zimarino) Conte. In earlier years, he worked for Brunswick Corporation, and in his later years he loved to work as the neighborhood "Mr. Fix It". He was an Army Veteran, serving during the Korean War. Stephen loved his home and family, and was a big patriots fan. In the last 18 months, he fought back from several serious health issues to maintain a good quality of life. However, he recently faced another health challenge that proved to be too much for his body, although his spirit remained intact and his light shined bright.
His funeral will be held from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston on Friday at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mark's Church, Cranston at 11:00 a.m. VISITING HOURS are Friday MORNING from 9:00-10:00 a.m. Burial, with military honors, will take place in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
