born on July 8, 1973, in Yonkers, New York, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Steven earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Nichols College, a foundation that served him well in his career as an accountant. He was passionate and meticulous in his profession, contributing significantly to his field before retiring due to illness. Despite the challenges he faced, Steven’s resilience remained steadfast, epitomizing strength and grace.
Among his proudest accomplishments was his family. Steven was married to his beloved wife, Elena M. (Gargano) Bencivenga, with whom he shared twenty cherished years of marriage. Together, they raised a daughter, Gabriella E. "Gabby" Bencivenga, who, along with his wife, brought immense joy and meaning to his life. He also treasured the close bonds he maintained with his parents, Rocco and Deborah (Sandland) Bencivenga of Plainville, MA, and his sisters, Gina Bencivenga of Satellite Beach, FL, and Tina Margetis and her husband Paul of Walpole, MA. His nephews, Lucas and Jacob, and nieces, Eleni and Isabella, held a special place in his heart.
Steven’s extended family was a source of comfort and strength. He was fondly connected to his mother-in-law, Elaine Gargano (Michael Santoro), and father-in-law, Anthony Gargano, as well as to his sister-in-law Cynthia Gargano (David Pontarelli) all of Cranston. He also leaves many aunts, uncles, and cousins who will remember him fondly. Steven was predeceased by his grandparents—Nana and Gramps Sandland—and Nana Sita, whose memories he cherished deeply.
Outside of his professional life, Steven was a man with varied interests and passions. He loved traveling and exploring new places, he was an avid sports enthusiast, especially going to Celtics games, PGA golf tournaments and cheering for the New England Patriots on the sidelines. Steven was an enthusiastic foodie, always seeking out new restaurants as well as enjoying cooking “family style”. If Steven wasn’t watching Sports Center, he was tuned into Bravo, a small but enjoyable pastime that added a touch of lightheartedness to his days.
