Sylvia A. De Luca

84, of Saunderstown, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Anthony De Luca. They were in a loving marriage for 66 years. Born in Providence, RI, and raised in Cranston, she lived a life that emphasized unwavering dedication to her family. Her uncanny and understated common-sense intelligence, positive outlook on life, optimism and unconditional love will leave a legacy that will be dearly remembered by many.

Sylvia graduated from Cranston High School East before attending Bryant College. Her early career included working as a bookkeeper for her brothers’ jewelry business, a role that demonstrated her sharp organizational skills and attention to fiscal detail. She later served for many years as an Administrative Assistant at the University of Rhode Island’s Bay Campus, where her dependable and diligent work ethic made a significant impression on those she worked with. She was affectionately known there as the “key lady” due to her hard work and ability to help solve problems with her co-workers.

Sylvia was a woman of many talents and interests. She nurtured a passion for the culinary arts, delighting in both cooking and baking, which brought joy not only to herself but also to her husband and family, and especially to her grandchildren, Cara and Talia De Luca. She was a talented, self-taught, and avid painter; her artwork brightens the walls of loved ones throughout the family. Sylvia had a particular fondness for Asian Art and Asian artifacts, which inspired much of her creative expression. Her keen eye for interior design further reflected her refined aesthetic sensibility and her desire to create beauty and ease in her surroundings.

Above all else, Sylvia took extreme pride in and love for her family, something that she held closest to her heart. She is survived by her beloved children: son, Anthony A. De Luca of Warwick; son, Steven J. De Luca and his wife Kim, and their two daughters, Cara and Talia De Luca, of Barrington; and her daughter Luisa De Luca and her wife, Brenda Harvey of West Kingstown. Sylvia and her daughter had an especially close relationship and Luisa’s dedication to her mom was unwavering. She also leaves her brother John Mastrobuono and his wife Carole of Cranston. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Anna Spadetti of Johnston, and her many nieces and nephews -Stephanie Mastrobuono, Claudia Mastrobuono, Liza De Fedele, Marc Mastrobuono, Mattew Mastrobuono, Jon Paul Mastrobuono, Peter J. Spadetti and Nancy Courtemanche.

She was predeceased by her brother Paul E. Mastrobuono and her parents, John A. and Mary (Pizzuti) Mastrobuono, formerly of Cranston, and brothers-in-law Ciro De Luca and Peter A. Spadetti.

Her life will be celebrated at a private family gathering. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to the American Diabetes Association at American Diabetes Association.
