Tanous “Tony” Azar passed away on September 2, 2016 in Needham, MA with his daughter Nancy by his side. He was married to Jean (Solomon) Azar for 40 years until her passing. He was born in Kfarsghab, Lebanon on March 22, 1935 to Milan and Hisne Azar, and lived in Lebanon until he emigrated to the USA in 1955, living most of his life in Providence, RI.
He leaves behind his three grandchildren: Tenessa Azar, Jean Azar-Tanguay, and Luc Azar-Tanguay. His grandchildren gifted much light to Tanous, known as Jiddo to them.
He leaves his children also: Nancy Azar and her wife Janet Conlon of Roslindale, MA.; Peter Azar and his husband Normand Tanguay of Boston, MA.; Jacob Azar and his partner Javier Vallejo of Palm Springs, CA.; and Milan Azar and his wife Lori Fowler of Johnston, RI.
Tanous is also survived by his brother, Ralph Azar of Providence and his sisters: Rose Solomon of Providence; Sr. Catherine Azar of France; Sr. Yasmine Azar of Lebanon; and Susan Farhart of Sydney, Australia.
He also leaves his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Anthony Solomon, Sr. of Providence; Jeanette and John Solomon Sr. of North Providence; Maryanne and Donald Solomon Sr. of Providence; as well as his Aunt, Eva Simon of Providence.
He was Uncle Tony to numerous nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren. He leaves many relatives in the USA, Lebanon, France, Australia, and Canada.
Tanous was an extremely hard working man who often worked two or three jobs simultaneously in various fields, and he was known for his intelligence and his work ethic.
He also was very dedicated to St. George’s Maronite Catholic Church, to which he devoted much of his time as unofficial deacon for many years.
Tanous will be waked on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 from 4-8 PM at St. George’s Maronite Catholic Church, 1493 Cranston St, Cranston RI, with his funeral mass being held there on Thursday, September 8, 2016 at 10AM.
Burial in St. Ann’s Cemetery to follow.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested that memorial donations be made to St. George’s Maronite Church.
