91, of Armonk, NY, formerly of Cranston, passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2016 at the James J. Peters VA Medical Center, Bronx, NY. He was the beloved husband of the late Rose Araxie (Toutoian) Chevian. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Hovsep and Baidzar (DerMardirosian) Chevian.
For many years, Tate worked for the Railway Express Co. as a driver. Later, he worked as a store manager for the RI Department of Corrections until his retirement. He was a WW-II U.S. Navy veteran. Throughout his life, he was also an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox.
Tate was the devoted father of the Rev. Mardiros Chevian and his wife Diane (Vidian) of Armonk, NY and Carol Chevian of Sag Harbor, NY; loving grandfather of Alexandra and Kristina Chevian; and dear brother of Mesrob Chevian of Cranston, Elizabeth Chevian and Rose Antonelli, both of Providence, and the late Michael Chevian, Mary Grant, Alice Mangione and Charles Chevian.
His Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 19th at 10 a.m. in Sts. Sahag and Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church, 70 Jefferson St., Providence, followed by burial with military honors at North Burial Ground, Providence. VISITING HOURS ARE THURSDAY AT CHURCH from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a Wake Service at 7:30 p.m.
