Thomas A. Medici, Sr

92, of Cranston, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 18, 2015. He was the husband of Gloria (Saccoccia) Medici for 62 years. Born in Providence, RI he was a son of the late Nunzio and Antonetta (Zoglio) Medici. He grew up in the Silver Lake section of Providence.
Tom attended the Laurel Hill Avenue School, Oliver Hazard Perry Middle School, Central High School, Mt. Pleasant High School, and Providence Trades School. Tom worked as a machinist, tool maker, and jewelry designer. He co-founded and served as Vice-President-Treasurer of Kenyon Tool, Inc. He was a member of the Manufacturers and Jewelers Association, the Providence Jewelers Club, and the Findings Manufacturers Association. Tom was a proud WWII U.S. Navy Veteran. He served in the South Pacific. He was a Quarter Master III on the USS LST #564. He received several medals, including the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with three bronze stars. In later years, he organized and co-hosted several reunions for his shipmates. Tom also served as a Cub Master for the Oak Lawn Pack of the Boy Scouts of America. He also coached for Grace Agency of the Cranston Western Little League. He was a long-time member of the Renaissance Alliance Lodge in the Order of the Sons of Italy. Tom supported many worthy causes and organizations including the Disabled American Veterans, Oak Lawn Public Library, The Providence Journal Santa Fund, the Cranston Western Little League, Special Olympics Rhode Island, United Way of Rhode Island, and the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry. Tom enjoyed Football, Baseball, Swimming, Golfing, and Dancing.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his four children; Thomas A. Medici, Jr. and his wife Lynn of Cranston, David Medici and his wife Denise of Cranston, Alan Medici and his wife Linda of Holland, PA, and Chris Medici and his wife Gennie of Chicago, IL. Tom was the grandfather of Matthew, Nicholas, Christina, Elisabetta and Victoria Medici. He was brother of the late Mary Del Bonis, John Medici, Angela Corrente, Albert Medici, Antonio Medici, and Elizabeth Nascenzi. He was also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday at 9:30 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Oaklawn Avenue, Cranston. Burial, with Military Honors, will take place in RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted.
