81, of Cranston, passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, September 27, 2023. He was the beloved husband of Margaret (Mieth) Caito for 63 years. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Gaetano and Beatrice (Bouchard) Caito. Besides his wife Margaret, Tom is survived by his loving daughters, Paula Eldridge and her husband Stephen of Exeter, and Patricia Caito of Cranston. Cherished grandfather of Sara Hanson, Rachel and Jennifer Eldridge, Hunter, and Kane Gautieri. Adored great grandfather of Teddy and Charlotte Rose Hanson. Brother of the late Kenneth Caito. He was the brother-in-law of Edward Mieth and Dr. Lisa Mieth.

“Past 50 Years: I was employed by the Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Newport from high school graduation (as a member of Student Educational Development Program Group IV) until my retirement in 1997. I held many positions throughout my career, from mechanical engineer to division head of the Combat Control Systems Department, Operational Systems Division. While at NUWC, I also earned an M.B.A. from Bryant University. I was then appointed as head of the Navy on-site team in charge of the Seawolf Submarine Combat System development at Lockheed-Martin in Syracuse, NY.

Through most of my professional career, I was also a volunteer EMT with North Kingstown Ambulance, Exeter Rescue, and Greater Baldwinsville Ambulance Corps (GBAC) in Baldwinsville, NY. I became a paramedic in New York and then the director of operations at GBAC for three years. Upon my return to Rhode Island, I became Chief of Exeter Rescue until my retirement this year.

After retirement from NUWC, I became the director of the Advanced Life Support Program for the Central New York Region, and after my return to Rhode Island, I was appointed by Governor Carcieri and Governor Chafee to the State of Rhode Island Ambulance Service Board, where I currently Serve as vice chairman”. Thomas was a wonderful husband, dad, grandpa, and great grandpa. The Caito family would like to thank HopeHealth Hospice and Right at Home for their care and compassion.

His funeral will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 3rd, at 10 a.m. from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston, followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Mary Church, Cranston. VISITING HOURS: Monday from 4-7 p.m. Burial will take place in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Exeter Rescue, 669 Ten Rod Road, Exeter, RI 02822.
