89, of Providence since 1969, formerly of Santiago, Villa Vasquez, and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Inpatient Center in Providence. He was the beloved husband of 60 years to Maria (Rubio) Morel. Born in the Dominican Republic, he was a son of the late Santiago and Eloina (Villalona) Morel. He was employed as a machinist at the Dolan & Bullock Company and the Frank Morrow Company, until his retirement. In the Dominican Republic he worked as an agronomist and accountant. Tomas was a devoted husband and loving father. He enjoyed returning to the Dominican Republic, whenever possible, to visit relatives and friends. Tomas was an avid reader of non-fiction. He followed world and local politics, and was active in local political groups supporting Dominican politics. Tomas enjoyed cooking Spanish food, and particularly his famous roast pork and fish soup. Everyone in the family looked forward to the holidays to have these dishes. Besides his wife, he is survived by his loving children, Teresa Stern and her husband Robert of Glocester, Elena Morel and Heidi Morel, both of Warwick, Eric Morel and his wife Sandra of Cranston, Betsabe Morel of New York City, and the late Thomas M. Morel. Tomas was the cherished grandfather of Emmanuel, Christian, Lindsey, Simon, Sofia, Evan, Jessica, Geoffrey and Alicia; the great-grandfather of Lyla and Sydney. He was the brother of Bolivar Morel of the Dominican Republic, Lourdes Grullon, Lelin Morel, both of Providence, Brunilda Morel of the Dominican Republic, and the late Americo, Ricardo, Santiago, Pedro, Rafael and Plinio Morel. His funeral service will be held in the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. Burial will immediately follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
