Walter L. McGarry, Jr.

82, of Cranston, passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2018. He was the beloved husband of 58 years of Elizabeth “Betty” (O’Brien) McGarry. Born in Cranston, he was the son of the late Cranston Police Lt. Walter L. McGarry, Sr. and Kathryn (O’Neil) McGarry.  Mr. McGarry was a grateful alumnus of LaSalle Academy 1953 and Brown University 1957. Walter enjoyed a 43 year career in human resource management positions. He was a devoted parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church, and a member of the St. Joseph’s Men’s Guild. Walter was a dedicated volunteer, serving as past president of Eastman House and on the board of Access Point of RI and Employees Assistance Program of RI

Besides his cherished wife he is survived by his brother Roderick A. McGarry and his wife Priscilla of Portland, ME. He was the brother of the late Neale A. McGarry. He is also survived by three nieces Katie McGarry, Kristen McGarry, Megan Akers and two nephews Michael and Peter McGarry.  In addition he leaves his cherished sisters in-law  Ruth Mc Elhiney, Lucille Hall and her husband John, and the late Grace Schulz and devoted brother in-law John O’Brien. Walter leaves seven first cousins also.

His funeral will be held on  Tuesday at 9 am from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory 1278 park Ave., Cranston followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in Immaculate Conception Church, Cranston. Burial will take place St. Ann’s Cemetery, Cranston VISITING HOURS:  Monday  4-7 pm.  Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
