Wilbur R. Wetzel

95, of Warwick, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2024 at HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center, Providence. He was the beloved husband of the late Eleanor (DiSanto) Wetzel. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late William and Margaret (Brothers) Wetzel. Wilbur was a US army veteran serving during the Korean war. Wilbur’s career began as a draftsman and estimator for Plantations Steel/ Aetna Bridge.  He then became Vice President of Dominion Rebar until his retirement. Wilbur was an accomplished golfer, winning many club tournaments in both RI and Florida. He was a former member of Warwick Country Club. Later in life, he also enjoyed playing wheelchair golf, winning very often. He was a true athlete and enjoyed watching sports, especially PC Basketball.

Wilbur is survived by his two loving daughters, Janet Zartarian and her husband David, and Barbara Hoy. He was predeceased by his son William J. Wetzel. Cherished grandfather of Regina Costa (Jason), Theresa Votolato (Evan Lipsman), Dante Votolato (Lina), Vincent Votolato, Alison Hebert, and Adrien Hebert (Sara). Adored great-grandfather of Julien Cepeda, Jason, and Gabriella Costa, Jake Votolato, and Ruby Lipsman. He was the uncle of Edmund Wetzel and his companion MaryAnn Rocchio. Wilbur was the brother of the late William, Robert, Edmund Wetzel, and Evelyn Nerone.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, March 16th, at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, Cranston. Burial with military honors will be held in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to HopeHealth Hospice, Philanthropy Department, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904.
