a skilled cabinet maker and devoted family man, passed away peacefully at his home on May 22, 2026. Born on February 15, 1946, in Providence, Rhode Island, William lived a life marked by dedication, craftsmanship, and service.
Before embarking on his distinguished career, William attended the University of Rhode Island, his education interrupted by a call to duty. He answered that call with honor, serving in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. His time as a veteran shaped his character and deepened his commitment to integrity and resilience.
Following his military service, William applied his talents as a cabinet maker, working for L. Vaughn Company for 22 years until the company’s closure. Thereafter, he contributed 15 years to Design Fabricators before retiring from the trade he so greatly respected. His meticulous workmanship and attention to detail spoke not only of his professional expertise but also of the care he extended to all facets of his life.
William found joy beyond his vocation in woodworking and gardening, hobbies through which he expressed creativity and a connection to the natural world. These pursuits reflected his patient spirit and his appreciation for the enduring beauty crafted by both nature and human hands. He also enjoyed travelling, especially an annual trip to New Hampshire with all four generations of his family.
Above all his accomplishments, William was most proud of his family. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Sally (Metcalfe) Hindson; his son, Guy W. Hindson of Cranston; grandson Jacob Hindson; and great-grandson Theodore Hindson. His legacy extends to his sister, Gail Garrison of Arizona; nephew Gregory Garrison of New York; nieces Jennifer Garrison of Pennsylvania, Jessica Frost of Virginia, and Emily Metcalfe of Vermont; and great-niece Belle Morse. William was preceded in death by his parents, William R. and Helen (Lachette) Hindson, and brother-in-law Stephen Metcalfe.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 9, from 9:00 – 11:00 AM followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM in the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hope Health Hospice, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904.
