Obituary

Agnes (Ampagoomian) Ayrassian, 96, of Lincoln, passed away after a very brief illness on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, peacefully surrounded by her family at Hope Health Hospice Care Center in Providence.  She was the beloved wife of the late Carl Ayrassian.

Born in New York, NY in 1927, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Helen (Piligian) Ampagoomian and lived there till she was fourteen when her family moved to Providence for a better way of life.

Agnes attended Mount Pleasant High School until the eleventh grade when she had to stay at home to take care of her mother who had contracted meningitis. At twenty-one she married her beloved husband Carl and started a family in Providence. In 1963 her husband and she opened up Freeway Liquors on Douglas Avenue in Providence and she ran that business with her children until she retired and sold the business in 2005 at the age of seventy eight. Agnes could be seen there every day as customers referred to her as Mrs. Agnes. After her husband’s passing in 1981 from Pancreatic cancer and at the urging of some of her relatives and friends, she joined a bowling league with her sister, and she bowled every Thursday morning at Lincoln Lanes for many years. After retiring, she began to do a great deal of traveling with her sister visiting her brother and sister in-law and traveling all over the country.

Agnes was the devoted mother of Robert Ayrassian of Lincoln, Gregory Ayrassian of Cranston and the late Gerald Ayrassian and his wife Barbara of Providence; dear sister of Mary Garabedian and Rose Ampagoomian both of North Providence and Harry Ampagoomian and his wife Pamela of Columbia Maryland; proud grandmother of Christopher Ayrassian, David Ayrassian Tara Ayrassian, Amanda Ayrassian and Christina Ayrassian.  In addition, she has thirteen loving nieces and nephews.

VISITING HOURS are Tuesday Morning, March 21st from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in Sts. Sahag & Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church, Providence with a Funeral Service at 11 a.m., followed by burial at North Burial Ground, Providence.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Sts. Sahag & Mesrob Church, 70 Jefferson St., Providence, RI 02908.
