Anthony J. Martone, Sr.

88, of Johnston, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Inpatient Center, Providence. He was the beloved husband of sixty-seven years to Anna (Indeglia) Martone. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Luigi and Angelina (Montaquila) Martone. He was a US Army veteran serving during WW II. Anthony joined the Merchant Marines at age seventeen in 1945. When he turned eighteen he was drafted into the Army where he spent fourteen months in the Philippines. Anthony was a Tool and Die Maker and Plant Manager for the former Allens Manufacturing Company of Providence for forty-five years before his retirement.

Anthony was a very respected member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, holding local, regional, and national positions in this society. Having moved his way up the ranks in the society, he earned the position of International Director. In celebration of this promotion, the Governor of Rhode Island proclaimed May 6, 1990 as Anthony Martone Recognition Day. Anthony is also prestigiously listed in the 1992/1993 Who’s Who Registry of Global Business leaders.

Anthony was a diehard Yankees fan, celebrating his honeymoon with a trip to New York to tour Yankee Stadium. His life was always guided by Christian values, and practiced his faith as a member and Commentator at Holy Cross Church. He loved spending time with his family, especially his new great-grandchildren. He was an unforgettable man, touching the hearts of everyone he knew.

Besides his wife he is survived by his loving children, Beverly Ann Deware of Johnston, Deborah Ann Barrett of North Smithfield, Anthony John Martone, Jr. and his wife Susan of Plainville, MA. He was the cherished grandfather of William Deware, Jessica Silva, Matthew Barrett, Holly Barrett, Stephanie Martone, and Christina Martone, and the great-grandfather of five. Anthony was the brother of the late Stefano, Peter, Arthur, and Luigi Martone, Concetta DiZoglio, Pasqualina Conti and Elena DeAngelis.

Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston on Monday at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Cross Church, 645 Hartford Avenue, Providence. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. VISITING HOURS Sunday 5-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hope Hospice and Palliative Care, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904.
