Benny Almonte Obituary

91, of Johnston, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, March 2, 2021. He was the beloved husband of the late Anna (Cambio) Almonte. Born in Sulmona, Italy, he was the son of the late Ernest and Ida (Almonte) Almonte. They immigrated to the U.S when Benny was eight years old.

 

Benny was a US Marine Corps Veteran serving in the Korean War. He was the original founder/owner of the former Colony Ice Cream of Greenville. Benny was an avid golfer, and enjoyed gardening and playing cards.

 

He is survived by his loving children, Linda DeMaio and her fiancé Kenneth Uth of Warwick, Ernest Almonte and his wife Kathy of Smithfield, Michael Almonte and his fiancé Brenda Gentile of Johnston, and Gloria Dumas and her companion Christopher Beck of Florida.  He was the cherished grandfather of eight and great grandfather of six.  He was the brother of Lydia Corvese of Johnston and the late Dante Almonte.

 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday at 10:00 am in St. Robert Bellarmine Church, 1804 Atwood Ave., Johnston. SEATING WILL BE LIMITED. Masks must be worn and social distancing will be observed. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Operation Stand Down of RI, 1010 Hartford Avenue, Johnston, RI 02919.
