Cheryl DeRita Obituary

73, of Johnston, peacefully passed away in her home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, September 5, 2021. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Guido DeAngelis Sr., and Elena (Martone) DeAngelis of Johnston. Cheryl was the loving wife of her devoted husband, William DeRita Jr. of Johnston, for over 43 years. She was the loving mother of her devoted son William DeRita III and his wife Elizabeth of Cranston. In addition to her husband, son and daughter in-law, she also leaves her two adorable grandchildren Elena Lucy DeRita and William Robert DeRita. She also leaves a loving brother, Guido DeAngelis Jr., and his wife Arlene of Johnston, plus many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and many dear friends.

Cheryl was a graduate of Rhode Island Junior College and also Rhode Island College. She worked at the Providence Public Library while attending college and after graduation was employed by the former Allendale Insurance Co., for over 9 years where she met her husband Bill. She later became a substitute teacher for almost 15 years at the former St. Bartholomew’s School, Providence and was a life-long parishioner of St. Bartholomew’s Church where she was a member of the Tuesday morning prayer group.

Cheryl enjoyed spending time with her family, caring for her home, cooking, baking, crocheting, and reading. Cheryl will be remembered as a quiet but very kind, generous, and friendly person.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, Sept. 9th from 5:00-8:00 p.m. in the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, Sept. 10th, at 10:00 a.m. in St. Bartholomew’s Church, Providence. Burial will take place in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Bartholomew’s Church, 297 Laurel Hill Ave., Providence, RI 02909.
