Evelyn Marocco Obituary

age 89 of Cranston, Rhode Island and a winter resident of Naples, Florida passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 25th.

Evelyn was the adored wife of Emilio “Lefty” Marocco for 65 years before his passing in November 2020. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late John and Natalie (Nardolillo) Vitulli.

Evelyn was a beloved school secretary for 20 years at both Gladstone and Horton elementary school in Cranston before retiring in 1994.  Both the school children and her colleagues had a deep affection for Mrs. Marocco and they enjoyed her warm demeanor and friendly smile. Evelyn volunteered for many years as a CCD teacher at St. Mark Church in Cranston, where she was also a communicant for 60 years.  She was an active member of the PTO of the schools for which she worked and served as a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts for `several years.

Evelyn’s life was centered on faith, family and friendship. She and Emilio traveled to every basketball and baseball game, dance performance, school event or family gathering for their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren no matter how far.

Evelyn was a voracious reader, loved playing cards with her friends every Tuesday for many decades and enjoyed traveling extensively with her husband Emilio. She had a contagious smile, a vivacious personality and was loved by all who knew her.

Evelyn was the devoted mother of four children.  Steven (Linda) of Cranston, Michael of Connecticut and Florida, Denise Quirk (Stephen) of Cranston and Carlene Wahl (Fritz) of New York City.

She was the cherished grandmother of nine grandchildren: Matthew, Mark, Joseph, and Danny Marocco, Lindsey and Ryan Quirk, Emma, John and Ethan Wahl.

Evelyn was Gigi to six great-grandchildren: Jaxon, whom she has joined in heaven, Landree, Collyns, Luca, Maia and Aria as well as many nieces and nephews.  Evelyn is survived by her brother, John Vitulli of Cranston, and her brother in law and sister in law Ronald and Elizabeth Marocco of Cranston.  She is predeceased by her siblings, Dolores DiChiara, Salvatore Vitulli, Marie Mixner, Amelia Crook and Barbara Butler.

Evelyn’s family would like to thank Hope Health Hospice and especially the nurses, CNA’s and staff in the Atrium at the Village at Waterman Lake, her home for the past three years.  The excellent care and comfort this second family provided to “Evie” and “Mama” will forever be appreciated.
