George C. Grammas

85, of Cranston, passed away on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at RI Hospital surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of 56 years to Dionisia (Poniaros) Grammas. Born in Sykea, Laconia Greece, he was the son of the late Constantine and Maria (Papageorgiou) Grammatikakis.  George was the owner and operator of Country Pizza & Restaurant in Coventry for 20 years until his retirement in 2002.

Besides his beloved wife he is survived by his loving children Constantine Grammas and his wife Katherine, Maria Coclin and her husband George, and James Grammas and his wife Emily all of Cranston; his dear siblings Despina Karavos and Oreanthi Mavraidis both of Canada; he was also the cherished Pappou of Dionisia, Elizabeth, Eleni, Nicole, Constantine, Anastasia, George and Peter.  He was also the brother of the late Demetrios Grammatikakis and Eftihia Gionis.

George belonged to The Church of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Parish, and was a member of AHEPA and the Annunciation Senior Citizens Group.  He will be dearly missed by his family and friends and will always be remembered as a compassionate, generous, and sincere man.  Cooking, gardening, and his family were his passions and pastimes.  In his retirement, he took great pride cooking at the church for the festival, seniors, and numerous other events.  The love that he felt for his family cannot be described, and his grandchildren were truly the light of his life.

His funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9 am from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory 1278 Park Ave. Cranston, followed by a funeral service at 10 am in the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Cranston. Burial will take place in North Burial Ground, Providence. VISITING HOURS: Monday 5-8 pm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to:  Church of the Annunciation Endowment Fund 175 Oaklawn Avenue, Cranston, RI 02920
