Glenn F. Russell, Sr.

89 formerly of Cranston and Bristol passed away Wednesday April 11, 2018. He was the husband of the late Virginia (West) Russell. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late George and Gladys (O’Neil) Russell. Glenn was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School and attended Providence College. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII with the 97th Ord. (Adak, Aleutian Islands).

Mr. Russell was the former Public Affairs Director for WSBE TV Ch. 36, where he produced and hosted The 13th State, State House Report and served as moderator for RI political debates. He was also the producer and host of Rhode Island Journal and The Glenn Russell Show (Full Channel Cable TV). He's fondly remembered for his musical talents, originally as a singer on The Vic Distad Show in San Diego, CA, and later with The Mood Swingers. He was an avid fan of Bing Crosby, a movie buff and enjoyed following the Red Sox, Dolphins, Celtics and PC basketball teams.

He's survived by his children; Glenn Russell Jr. Esq. and fiancé Shirl Gerlach of Barrington, Scott Russell and wife Pauline of Warren, Keith Russell and wife Mary-Ellen of East Greenwich and Sherry Izzi and husband David of Cranston; his grandchildren; Scott Jr., Sarah, Samantha, Joseph, Emma, Patricia, Sophia, Emily, Matthew and Caitlin Russell; his sister, Carole Maynard of Glastonbury, CT and 11 beloved nieces and nephews.

FUNERAL: Mon. at 9am from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME, 1278 Park Ave, Cranston followed by a Mass of Christian burial at St. Mary’s Church, Cranston at 10am. VISITING HOURS: Sun 4-7pm. BURIAL: (Mil. hon.) St. Ann’s Cemetery, Cranston.
