Gloria L. (Garrett) Samson

Gloria L. (Garrett) Samson

of West Cranston, RI and formerly of Webster and Rochester, NY, passed away August 18.

Wife, mother, teacher, professor, real tor and political activist, Gloria received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado and a 1988 Ph.D. in history from the University of Rochester. Her book The American Fund for Public Service was published by Greenwood Press in 1996. Born in Detroit and raised in Loveland, Colorado, she married Dennis Samson, her high-school sweetheart in 1955. He predeceased her in 2017.

She leaves her sons Miles D. Samson (Patricia) and Timothy H Samson (Elizabeth) and two grandchildren, Andrew and Sydney.  She had a beloved daughter Ann who passed away in 1993. Gloria was an avid reader and follower of politics and loved literature and modern art.

She is survived by her brother Ed and his wife Kay, sisters-in-law Marcia (Sidney) Kaufmann and Judy (Delbert) Lebsack.
