Ida Pezzullo Obituary

Ida Pezzullo of Johnston, Rhode Island, passed away peacefully at home at the age of 102, a centenarian, on May 5, 2023. She was a loving, devoted, beloved and cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. She was a blessing to her family and friends, and her loving, sweet spirit will be with us forever.

Born in Providence on August 18, 1920, Ida was the daughter of the late Addolorata (Colaluca) and Nicola Capobianco. She graduated from Central High School in 1938 and was a member of the Rhode Island Honor Society. She was employed by Travelers Insurance Company and Home Insurance Company, where she was a personal lines underwriter. She worked as a bookkeeper and claims representative at Shaghalian/Alpine Insurance Agency for 21 years until her retirement in 2007. Ida started working at the age of 16 and didn’t retire until her late 80’s.

Ida enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, walking and attending church weekly. She lived by her faith in God and the Roman Catholic Church, and she would say that going to church lifts your spirit up and gives you joy. Even when she reached 100 years, she was very active and enjoyed daily walks around the community to stay healthy, playing bingo, cards, reading the newspaper and solving word search puzzles. She always gave loving guidance to her family, including to have peace and love within your family, and do unto others be kind, polite, humble, have pride in what you do, and do the right thing.

Ida was a blessing to her family who cherished her. Ida gave comfort to her family, and her caring nature, warm hugs, happy smile, bright eyes, comforting voice, joyful laughter and sweet spirit will be forever with us. She was the loving mother of Theresa M. DiRuzzo and her late husband Anthony of North Providence, RI, Brenda J. LaFazia and her husband Ernest of Johnston, RI, and Joseph R. Pezzullo and his wife Pat of Broken Arrow, OK. She was the loving grandmother of seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She was the wife of the late Angelo A. Pezzullo. She was the sister of the late Dr. Giovanni Capobianco, Angelina Conti, Teresa (Filippone) Pansera, William Capobianco, Esther Cianci and Lydia DeAngelis. She was also an aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Her funeral will be held on Monday, May 15th at 10 a.m. from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Rocco Church, 931 Atwood Ave., Johnston at 11 a.m.  Burial will be at St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.  VISITING HOURS are Monday Morning from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.
