Joan A. (Neary) Neary

of Cranston, passed away peacefully on Saturday June 27, 2020 surrounded by her loving family after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.  Born in Providence, she was the devoted daughter of the late Francis and Florence (Lepore) Neary.

She was the former wife of the late Anthony J. Neary and dear companion of the late Clement Vincent. Joan was the beloved mother of Robbin Winegar (Stephen), Colleen Piccirilli (Alan), Michaela Solitro (Leonard) and the late Kathleen “Kelly” Riley, RN and Joseph “Bucky” Neary. She was the loving “Grandma Joan” to Christopher (Juliann) Riley, Patrick Riley, Zachary McLaughlin, Kayla Ann (William) Forte, Leonard Anthony Solitro, Jessica Winegar, Elyssa Piccirilli, and Jennifer (James) Jackson and great grandmother to Jenna, Noah and Lauren Riley, Ava and Jonathan Riley, Natalia Jones, James and Beckman Jackson. She was the dear sister of Francis Neary and the late Florence Peterson.

Joan started her career with the City of Providence as a crossing guard and retired as a clerk in the Providence Municipal Court.  She also worked for many catering companies as a server including Cozy Catering.  She was a CCD teacher for many years at St. Mary’s Church in Providence.  Joan also was a former member of the St. Mary’s Church Choir in Cranston.

Joan lived with and was cared for by her loving daughter Colleen. She was also cared for by three amazing and loving caregivers; Kiara Marziale, Maria Martinez and Ashley Desjarlais.

Joan loved her summers at the beach with her family and enjoyed country line dancing every weekend. Joan was a member of the Rhode Island Public Employees Local 1033 and a member of New England Country Music Club.

Her Mass of Christian Burial to which relatives and friends are invited, will be held on Wednesday, July 1st at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, 1525 Cranston St., Cranston. (Social distancing and masks required). Burial will be private and visiting hours are respectfully omitted.
