Louis Ruggieri

93, of Cornell St., Cranston, passed away peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by his loving family. Louis was the beloved husband of the late Ida J. (Castriotta) Ruggieri and a son of the late Salvatore and Silvia (Pezzuco) Ruggieri. Louis was the father of Salvatore J. Ruggieri (Susan Reed), Sally Cacchiotti (Joseph Maggiacomo), Gina Ruggieri (husband Alfredo Rodriguez). He was the grandfather of Shayla Franks and her husband Joe, Stephen Cacchiotti, Jr. and Luciano Ruggieri. He is also survived by his sister Anna Oakes of Smithfield, and was the beloved brother of the late Marietta Palumbo, Virginia Palumbo, Palmina Centofante, Concetta Crouse, Amelia Vecchiarino, Chinse Mancini and Salvatore Ruggieri.

Louie was a proud WWII US Navy veteran, having served on the US Enterprise and the USS Missouri. Lou was a retired master carpenter and a gold card member of the local carpenter’s union. He was a chartered member of the St. Mary’s Feast Society. He was also a member of the Tabor-Franchi and Nelson-Mack VFW Posts. His passions in life were wood working, building birdhouses, gardening, sports, music, his Italian heritage and hometown of Knightsville. If he wasn’t telling stories at the table, he was in his man cave reading, playing cards, or listening to his favorite, Dean Martin. His greatest pride was his three grandchildren. He lit up anytime they were in his presence. Louie leaves many nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends. The family would like to thank Sue Reed, for her wonderful care during his final days; as well as Drs. Joseph DiLorenzo, Cynthia Alves and the staff of hospice homecare.
