Maria C. (Tammetta) Abatecola

September 27, 1936 — March 27, 2020

Maria C. (Tammetta) Abatecola

of Johnston passed away peacefully at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center on March 27th, 2020, after multiple brave battles with the beast that is cancer. Maria spent her last moments surrounded by her husband and children. She will be looking down from heaven on her husband of 59 years Arnaldo Abatecola, her children Linda Abatecola Tusup and her husband Marjan, Paula Abatecola Corsi and her husband David, and Joseph Abatecola, and her grandchildren, Emma, Ruby, Ian, Wesley, and Miles. Maria was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, and friend who will be missed by everyone who knew her.

Maria was born in Pico (FR), Italy on September 27, 1936 to the late Eliseo Tammetta and Libera Piacitelli. She was the beloved sister of the late Carmina Rosati and leaves behind her sister Letizia Ventura of Germany.

At 25 she met the love of her life and followed Arnaldo to the USA where the two resided. They lived in Providence from 1961 until they moved to Johnston, RI in 2000.

Maria was a devout Catholic, a communicant of St. Robert Bellamine Church, and a member of the S. Antonino Martire Society. Maria’s guiding principles in life were God and family. If you were to ask Maria what gave her the most joy, her answer would be raising her children and being an integral part of her grandchildren’s lives.

She will always be remembered for her grace, kindness, generosity and selflessness. Her door was always open, and the espresso was always on. A celebration of her life will be announced at a later date. Her funeral and burial will be private.
