Michael Correra Obituary

Michael Correra, 91 of Warwick passed away, January 5, 2022 at home with his loving niece Brenda by his side.  Born in Providence he was the son of the late Domenic and Giuseppina (DiVincenzo) Correra. He was the husband of 19 years to June Kononchuk (Correra), they raised two beautiful daughters Lynn and Lisa.

He graduated from Classical High School, earning his BEng from URI and then went on to earn his master’s degree in Public Administration from George Washington University.

Michael proudly served his country as a Lieutenant in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a Chief Civil Engineer at Fort Howard, MD and Brockton, Ma VA Hospitals.

One of his greatest passions was for traveling. He had visited numerous countries, most recently Cuba at age 88.  His love for travel helped him in his knowledge and fluency in Italian, Spanish, German and Chinese. After spending 25 years in Miami Beach enjoying the beautiful ocean views from his apartment and looking forward to all the visits from his daughter Lynn, he decided to return home to RI. He came back one and a half years ago to live with his niece Brenda in Cranston. They moved to Warwick where their days consisted of long walks outside, sitting by the pool or on their deck singing to Frank Sinatra. He also loved attending family get-togethers.

He is survived by his daughter Lynn Piana and her husband Stephen. His two grandsons Matthew and Kevin Piana. His beloved niece and caretaker Brenda Melucci. He will be greatly missed by his great-nephews and nieces along with his great great-nephews whom he adored, Brayden, Robbie and Luca. He was the brother of Elizabeth Harrell, brother-in-law of Evelyn Correra. He was predeceased by his beloved daughter Lisa Correra, his brother Frank Correra and brother-in-law Joe Harrell.

Michael was one of the most positive, witty, kindest, sweetest, gentle and caring individuals that one could meet. Anywhere he went people absolutely loved him. He had a life that was full of many adventures and accomplishments. However, his greatest by far would be receiving Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He will be greatly missed.
