Michael J. Placella Jr.

92, of Johnston, peacefully passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, July 13, 2021. He was the beloved husband of the late Eleanor (Gardella) Placella. Born in Johnston, he was a son of the late Michael J. Placella Sr., and Jeanette (Rossi) Placella.

Michael was a manager at Verizon for 30 years before retiring. He was a proud US Army Air Corp veteran serving during WWII. Michael was the President of the Johnston Hose 1 Volunteer Fire Department, a founding member of the Pocasset Casino Club, and a member of the Santa Maria di Prata Sanita Society. He was a parishioner at St. Bridget’s Church and St. Rocco’s Church. Michael loved spending time with his family, friends, and his dog Oscar. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling to Italy.

Michael is survived by his loving children, Michael J. Placella III, and his wife Laurie of Fiskdale, MA, Geralyn Miller and her husband George of Littleton, MA, Catherine Catterson and her husband Dan of Cranston, and Stephanie McDonough and her husband Hugh of Littleton, MA. He was the cherished grandfather of Michael and Gino Placella, Daniel and David Catterson, Angela and Richele Miller, Lee and Sam McDonough, and the cherished great grandfather of Anna Bamberg. He was the brother of Angela Capasso of West Warwick, and the late Benedict “Benny” Placella, Anne Formicola, and Dolores Iannuccilli. He also leaves his extended family in Benincasa, Italy.

His funeral will be held on Saturday, July 17th, at 9:00 a.m. in the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Rocco’s Church, Johnston. Burial with military honors will be held in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. VISITING HOURS: Friday from 4:00-8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Michael J.
