Norma Ann (Quirk) Grossi

August 13, 1936 ~ November 26, 2019 (age 83) 83 Years Old

Norma Grossi Obituary

 of Providence, passed away on Tuesday November 26, 2019 at the Phillip Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence.  She was the wife of the late Joseph Luke Grossi, Sr. for 37 years.

She was one of thirteen children born to Violet (LaPorte) Quirk and James Earl Quirk, Sr. She lived in Providence her entire life. She was a 1954 graduate of St. Patrick's High School.

Mrs. Grossi worked at Providence College for almost 40 years, retiring in 2009. She worked in the men's basketball office alongside Friar legends Dave Gavitt, Joe Mullaney, Vincent Cuddy, and  one of her favorite players, Otis Thorpe. She then worked in the MBA Program as an Administrative Assistant. A Friar fan through and through, Mrs. Grossi and her family had second-row season tickets to the men's basketball games for decades.

Mrs. Grossi was an avid cook, gardener, and local sports fan. She especially loved the Boston Red Sox.

She is survived by her son, Joseph Luke Grossi, Jr. (wife Marina Bettaglio) and their children, Anna and Thomas Grossi, of British Columbia, Canada, and her daughter and caretaker Jeanne St. Michel (husband Ted) of Cranston.

She was the sister of the late James, Raymond, John, and Edward Quirk, Marie Jennings, Carol Sova, and Marian Gormley.

She is survived by her siblings Eleanor Byrne of Providence, Bernie Gallagher of North Providence, Joan Selwyn of Matunuck, Dorothy Dunphy of North Kingstown, and Robert Quirk, Sr. of North Providence.

She is also survived by 103 nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Mrs. Grossi was the granddaughter of Irish immigrants Michael & Ellen (Rogers) Quirk of County Cork, Ireland, and Amedee LaPorte of Quebec, Canada and Eva (Carmel)  LaPorte of Burrillville, RI.

She was the sister-in-law of Margie & Raymond Gemma of Cranston, and Marie & Anthony Verdi of East Greenwich. She was the daughter-in-law of the late Luke & Loretta (Saccoccia) Grossi of Cranston.

She also leaves her beloved cat, Katie.

The family would like to thank the Hope Health VNA,  and the Phillip Hulitar Hospice Center, for their wonderful support, caretaking, and help to respectfully honor our mother's wishes to keep her maintained in her home  in which she lived since 1974.

The family would also like to thank her friends and neighbors, Steven and Cindy Marchesi for all their help over the years, and especially in the past many months of her illness.

The family would also like to thank our cousin Kristyn Gallagher for being our mother's caretaker in the last two weeks of her life, providing her with a sense of humor, great company, and the wonderful feeling of safety and security.

Her funeral service to which relatives and friends are invited will be held Monday, December 2nd at 11am in the Nardolillo Funeral Home & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston, followed by burial at St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visiting hours are Sunday from 4pm to 8pm.
