Samuel Simonian Obituary

of Cranston, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 23, 2020 at home with his family by his side. He was the husband of 57 years to Mary (DerMooshegian) Simonian. Born in Providence, Rhode Island, he was the son of the late Kazar and Mariam Simonian and brother of the late Sally Avakian; father of John S. Simonian Esq., Robert S. Simonian Esq. and Jennifer M. Kevorkian and her husband Allan; and grandfather of Allan and Bedros.

He served his country in the US Army in Italy and North Africa during World War II, earning a Purple Heart.  Sam graduated from Central High School and received his Bachelor of Science degree from Bryant College in two and a half years. He and his friend started a braided rug manufacturing business which they operated for many successful years. Sam later went on to a fulfilling career in furniture sales, retiring in 1992. His grandsons spent their spare time playing cards and doing puzzles with him. Sam was an avid golfer and was a former member of the Pawtucket Country Club and Valley Country Club. He was the happiest when reminded he got a hole in one in 1988. He was a longtime member of the Knights of Vartan and spent many years swimming at the Cranston YMCA with his friends every morning.  All who loved him will miss him dearly.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Michele, Sheila, and Jose, for the wonderful care they provided to our dad.

His Funeral Service to which relatives and friends are invited, will be held on Friday, February 28th at 11 a.m. in Sts. Sahag & Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church, Providence, followed by burial with military honors at Swan Point Cemetery, Providence.  Visiting hours are respectfully omitted.
