Stephen McKenzie

76, passed away on August 12, 2018, surrounded by his loving family.  He was the beloved husband of Antonetta “Toni” J. (Maratta) McKenzie for 47 years.

Born in Gloucester, MA, he was the son of the late William R. and Sarah J. (Castle) McKenzie.  Stephen was a devoted father to Lisa-Rose McKenzie and Brian A. McKenzie and dear “Papa” to his two cherished grandchildren, Brendan A. and Lauren E. He is survived by his brothers, William and Peter McKenzie.

Stephen attended Wentworth Institute in Boston, MA, which led to a career in architectural design, having designed several residential, commercial, and landscapes for more than 40 years before retiring in 2006. He appreciated historical architecture, and had purchased and renovated the Pawtucket Fire Station 4 on Broadway for his business, Shepard-McKenzie Associates, ultimately ensuring it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. He had also redesigned the Capron Park Zoo in Attleboro, MA in the ‘80s.

He was a wealth of knowledge and never stopped learning.  Stephen was an artist, craftsman, had a wonderful sense of humor, loved the outdoors, and enjoyed making wine to share with family and friends.  He was a member of the Cranston Fish & Game, serving on the E Board, and S.A.S.S.  He was a former Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 22, Johnston.

Stephen spent his life dedicated to his family.

Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston on Friday at 10:00 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am in St. Mary’s Church, Cranston. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. VISITING HOURS will be held on FRIDAY MORNING from 9:00 – 10:00 am.
