Welcome to the memorial page for

Edith C. (Mussells) Davis

April 6, 1915 ~ May 6, 2017 (age 102) 102 Years Old

Edith Davis was born in Danvers, Massachusetts, as the fifth of the six children of Estella and George A. Mussells. She grew up in Reading, Massachusetts, and graduated from Simmons College in Boston.

In 1940, Edith married Roger L. Davis and led the life of a Navy officer's wife, moving from place to place wherever he was stationed all across the country during his military career.  They settled in Narragansett, Rhode Island, in 1967 as Roger neared retirement from the Navy, and, until Roger's death in 2003, traveled, visited their children and brothers and sisters, and appreciated the gift of their golden years together near the shore.

In their younger days, Edith and her husband Roger thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors. They took their five children and the family dog camping, fishing, hiking, boating, and mountain climbing in state and national parks. Edith told of one particular brown bear in Yellowstone National Park that sat down at her picnic table with her morning coffee while she and her family jumped into the car and sped away.

Life was an adventure for Edith. Even into her 90s, she accompanied her children and grandchildren on trips to locales as far away as Europe and as near as Martha's Vineyard. She also joined family on a sleigh ride in northern Wisconsin, on jaunts up the East Coast to stay in a bed and breakfast in Maine, and in visits to the homes where she once lived on Cutts Island and in Kittery, recalling fond memories of those early years.

A loving mother, Edith is survived by her five children—Constance (Robert) Eldridge, Frances (Chester) Lewis, Roger (Joan) Davis Jr., Albert (Jacqueline) Davis, and George (Mary) Davis—14 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. She will always be remembered.

Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 13th at 9 a.m. in the Wakefield Baptist Church, 236 Main Street, Wakefield, Rhode Island. Family members will greet friends and relatives at the church one-half hour before the service. Following the service, burial will be in the Rhode Island Veteran's Cemetery next to her husband.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Edith Davis may be made to Hope Hospice & Palliative Care Rhode Island, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, Rhode Island 02904. Visit NardolilloFH.com for online condolences.
