Dr. Mary L. (Roque) Guertin

March 12, 1926 ~ June 19, 2017 (age 91) 91 Years Old


91, of Pembroke Pines, Florida (previously of Narragansett, Rhode Island) died peacefully June 19, 2017 surrounded by her loving family.  Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband of 54 years, J.A. Richard Guertin,,US Army (Ret).

Mary is survived by her children, Michael R. Guertin, US Navy (Ret) and his wife Mitzi of Jacksonville, Florida , Barbara M. H. Mitchell of Northborough, MA and Richard J. Guertin and his wife Angela of Miramar, Florida.   She was the dearly loved grandmother of eight and great- grandmother of four.  Mary was the sister of Bishop Francis X. Roque and Warren E. Roque, and of the late Dr. John Roque, Barbara M. Roque, Dr. Robert E. Roque and Gerald W. Roque, Esq.

Mary graduated from the University of Rhode Island and received her Masters and Doctorate from the George Washington University.  She traveled the world, first on her own in post-war Europe, and then with her husband and their family through military assignments.  Mary was dedicated to a life of service, helping many in the military heal their PTSD and other challenges, and then working with the homeless and others in need.  Mary’s steadfast devotion to her faith provided her strength and serenity throughout her life. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday at 9:00 am in St. Paul Church, 1 St. Paul Place, Cranston. Burial will follow in RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. VISITING HOURS will be held in the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Ave, Cranston on Friday from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. Expressions of sympathy, and celebrations of Mary’s life may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 245 Waterman Ave, Suite 306, Providence, RI 02906.
